PURAC BIOQUÍMICA - Bag-in-box for sodium lactate

Purac Bioquímica is a well-known, prestigious firm of the fine chemical products sector that manufactures and commercialises various products with wide applications in the field of foodstuffs and cosmetics, including sodium lactate marketed under the PURASAL brand name, with many uses in the food industry.

Sodium lactate is a highly hygroscopic substance, which makes dry-cleaning the units unviable. Consequently, the leaders of Purac’s packaging project set out two requirements:

-         It had to be possible to clean all the installation with water.

-         The machines had to be made of the appropriate materials to withstand this cleaning.

To meet these two requirements, all the installation would have to be made of stainless steel with degree of protection IP65.

The company that accepted the challenge of creating one of the most unusual and complex applications to be found in today’s industrial packaging sector decided to incorporate a TMI gantry bag-in-box system specially designed for this application.

The gantry had to be able to receive two types of packaging:

a)      A sack of practically rectangular shape, which is then introduced into the cardboard box.

b)      A rectangular sack that passes through the system to the palletising zone.

The gantry incorporates an automatic cardboard box maker that delivers the boxes folded and bottom-sealed to a special three-shaft handler that takes the sack received from the bag-packaging line and places it carefully inside the box. The box then moves along a series of conveyor belts to the top-sealing station, and is then ready for palletising.
