CHOCOVIC - Bag-In-Box and Palletizing for Bags and Cases

The company was founded in the year 1872 under the name of CHOCOLATES ARUMI. In 1977 the NEDERLAND group purchased the company and renamed it CHOCOVIC, adapting its facilities to produce chocolate covering. The company currently produces 30,000 TM/year of covering, substitute and cocoa fillings for HORECA and the foodstuffs industry.

The industrial handling processes in a packaging line can be automated so that the work of the line operator is limited to supervision tasks. In addition, the industrial automation of certain processes guarantees full performance of the production lines by ensuring optimal working cycles.

The CHOCOVIC plant makes, among other products, chocolate drops for the pastry and confectionery trade (cakes, sweets, cookies, bathing lines, etc.) The drops from the moulding line are packaged in 25-kg pinch sacks or 5-kg flow-pack bags. The 5-kg bags are grouped in master boxes in packets of 2 units. Both the cardboard boxes and the 25-kg paper sacks must be palletised and baled.

Until now, this amount of handling in the packaging process itself – taking two 5-kg bags from the packing machine, preparing a cardboard box, placing the bags inside each box, sealing the box, placing it on the pallet, and placing the 25-kg sacks from the other bag-making machine on another pallet – involved a great deal of labour and a working rhythm adapted to the manual handling by the operatives.

CHOCOVIC has incorporated into this process an automated system by means of TMI industrial handling robots, consisting in:

- Bag-in-box handling robot, which receives the 5-kg bags from the packing machine and the boxes from an automatic box-making machine. It takes two bags and places them in the empty box with the aid of a channelling mould that is raised and lowered pneumatically. Then the box is transferred to an automatic sealing machine by a conveyor belt.

- Automatic multi-palletising cell, by means of a TMI P4 industrial robot that receives the cardboard boxes at one point and the 25-kg sacks at another. The robot simultaneously palletises both formats on two different pallets. It incorporates a handling clamp designed to handle boxes, sacks and pallets without requiring any kind of adjustment.

Once each pallet has been made up, it is transferred to the automatic baler by means of roller tracks for overwrapping.

The industrial automation of the packaging line guarantees optimisation of production because it ensures constant high performance in the processes throughout the working shift and avoids worker fatigue in the tasks of handling loads.

The design and conception of the solution has been developed with the premisses of occupying the same physical space (compact installation) with no mechanical adjustments of any kind (multi-purpose handling clamp for any format) and avoiding waiting times (optimisation of working cycles).
